STEP 8 – HAND MASSAGE

broken image

The hands are a very important part of our every day lives. As a Massage Therapist, your hands are your livelihood and serve as the tools of your trade. Taking care of your hands is as important for your business as it is to the clients you see each day.

Incorporating Essential Oils into hand massage techniques can be a little more complicated than it is with massage techniques performed on other areas of the body.

This is mainly because this type of application needs to have a greater dilution of the Essential Oils to avoid eye irritation should your client touch their eyes before the massage oil is fully absorbed. Greater dilution of the Essential Oils in a larger amount of carrier oil is one way to help minimize the effect. Another way is to apply carrier oil after completing the hand massage and then toweling away the excess. Essential Oils are easily and quickly absorbed through the skin, using a carrier oil after the massage is a great way to further dilute what remains on the skin without stripping away any of the benefits.

TIP: It’s always good to remember that washing with water after applying Essential Oils actually serves to drive the Essential Oils deeper into the skin. Because oil and water don’t mix, it’s best to use a light carrier oil to achieve further dilution where Essential Oils are concerned.
